Date 21/12/2007

On a conference held yesterday, the WSE President, Mr Ludwik Sobolewski, has reflected on the highlights of the passing year and the plans of the Warsaw Stock Exchange for 2008.

A total of 101 companies have listed on the Warsaw trading floor in 2007: 79 on the WSE Main List (12 of which were foreign based entities) and 22 on NewConnect. The cumulatinve value of IPOs exceeded 18,3 bln zlotys.

According to Mr Sobolewski, the WSE should see in the coming year about 70 new companies on the WSE Main List and around 80 on NewConnect. Among those 70 debuts on the Main List, I expect to see 15-20 foreign companies. That will push the total number of international firms on the WSE above 40 - Mr Sobolewski said.

The President also remainded that, effective from 1 January, the listing criteria on the Main List will change - the minimum capitalisation of issuers will be 5 million euros. That treshold is set at 1 million euros at the moment.

The WSE plans a number of projects for 2008. Mr Sobolewski has highlighted the launch of a "NewConnect community" Internet portal that will serve all parties interesed in investing and developing this market as well as the opening of a portal dedicated to the futures market. A key priority for 2008 will the increasing WSE liquidity - Mr Soobolewski said.

The passing year has been very successful for the capital market. The WSE indexes were on the rise, in excess of 100 companies have listed, trading value, capitalisation and the number of transations have all risen. The market capitalisation has grown beyond the 1 trillion zlotys mark (domestic and foreign companies) for the first time in WSE history.
