Warsaw Stock Exchange Group Successfully Completes CO2 Emission Allowances Auction

  • On 2 April 2013, WSE has provided an auction platform for the sale of 210,417 CO2 emission allowances remaining in reserve after the second trading period including years 2008 – 2012.
  • Seven entities have participated in the auction which sold 191,798 emission allowances with a total value of over PLN 3.6 million.

Under an agreement with the Institute of Environmental Protection – National Research Institute, which performs the functions of the National Centre for Emissions Management (KOBiZE), the WSE has made available an online platform for a sale auction of 210,417 CO2 emission allowances (EUA – European Union Allowances) remaining in reserve after the second trading period including years 2008 – 2012.

The auction was mainly addressed to participants of the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) including energy and production companies, as well as brokerage houses and other entities which trade in financial instruments. Seven entities participated in the auction. The winner acquired 191,798 emission allowances with a total value of over PLN 3.6 million. The remaining emission allowances will be offered in an additional round of the auction which will be run on 23 April 2013 also through the auction platform made available by the Warsaw Stock Exchange.

The CO2 emission allowances auction has been executed by KOBiZE while the financial support for the auction (including the acceptance of security deposits and payments for allowances) has been provided by the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management.
