The total open interest in canola futures contracts traded on Winnipeg Commodity Exchange Inc. ("WCE") set a record level of 99,488 contracts as at the close of business on Friday, December 1, 2006.
The previous total open interest record for canola futures contracts was set on March 21, 2001 when there were 98,221 canola futures contracts outstanding.
Winnipeg Commodity Exchange Inc., established in 1887, has been facilitating futures contract trading since 1904. WCE is Canada's only agricultural futures and options exchange and North America's first fully electronic commodity exchange. WCE offers futures and options contracts on canola, domestic feed wheat, and western barley.
