Warsaw Stock Exchange: Investor Activity On GPW Markets: January 2016

  • The value of trade in equities on the Electronic Order Book1 on the Main Market decreased by 21.1% year on year in January 2016 as the capitalisation of domestic companies decreased by 16.5%
  • The volume of trade in index futures was 393.5 thousand contracts, a decrease of 6.7% year on year
  • The value of bond issues listed on Catalyst increased by 8.4% year on year to PLN 69.9 billion at the end of January 2016 
  • The total volume of spot and forward transactions in electricity was 11.8 TWh in January 2016 compared to 14.3 TWh in January 2015
  • The total volume of forward and spot transactions in natural gas was 9.3 TWh in January 2016, a decrease of 17.7% year on year

The total value of trade in equities on the Main Market was PLN 14.4 billion in January 2016, representing a decrease of 22.8% year on year. Trade in equities on the Electronic Order Book was PLN 14.0 billion in January 2016, a decrease of 21.1% year on year. The average daily number of transactions increased by 13.1% year on year to 74.2 thousand in January 2016 and the average value of trade in equities on the Electronic Order Book decreased to PLN 736.6 million, i.e., by 16.9% year on year.

The total value of trade on NewConnect was PLN 107.1 million in January 2016, representing a decrease of 22.3% year on year. The average daily value of trade was PLN 5.3 million.

The volume of trade in index futures was 393.5 thousand contracts in January 2016 compared to 421.8 thousand contracts in January 2015, representing a decrease of 6.7% year on year. The volume of trade in single-stock futures was 81.5 thousand contracts in January 2016, a decrease of 2.8% year on year.

The value of bond issues listed on Catalyst was PLN 69.9 billion at the end of January 2016, representing an increase of 8.4% year on year. The value of trade on the Electronic Order Book on Catalyst increased by 11.2% year on year to PLN 163.0 million.

The total value of trade on TBSP was PLN 35.0 billion in January 2016, representing a decrease of 30.4% year on year.

The total volume of spot and forward transactions in electricity was 11.8 TWh in January 2016 compared to 14.3 TWh in January 2015. The volume of spot transactions in natural gas more than tripled from 1.0 TWh in January 2015 to 3.7 TWh in January 2016. The total volume of spot and forward transactions in natural gas was 9.3 TWh in January 2016 compared to 11.3 TWh in January 2015 (a decrease of 17.7%).

The capitalisation of 433 domestic companies listed on the Main Market was PLN 497.0 billion (EUR 111.9 billion) at the end of January 2016. The total capitalisation of 487 domestic and foreign companies listed on the GPW Main Market was PLN 990.4 billion (EUR 223.0 billion) at the end of January 2016.

The company AUXILIA S.A. was newly listed on NewConnect in January 2016 as the 419th company listed on NewConnect an the first new listing on the market in 2016. The company T-BULL issued corporate bonds on Catalyst. The issue was worth PLN 1.2 million. 

GPW held 19 trading sessions in January 2016, one less than in January 2015.
