Date 07/05/2009

Derivatives

In April 2009 the traded volume in all derivatives was 1.1 million instruments. At the end of April the number of open interest was 119 thousand units.

Interest in stock futures has been growing. At present the traded volumes are the highest ever for this instrument. Since the beginning of the year the traded volume amounted to 177 thousand contracts, which gives an average monthly traded volume at the level of 44 thousand instruments. The most popular are futures on PKOBP. This year their share in total traded volume in all equity futures exceeded 50%.

High volumes in equity futures are a result of a new co-operation model between the Exchange and selected market animators. Thanks this new model, investors receive quotations on very attractive market terms.

Currency futures have also been very popular with investors – in April the traded volume exceeded 15 thousand contracts, and on a YTD basis almost 85 thousand contracts, which accounts for 64 % of traded volume in 2008 (132.6 thousand). Futures based on the USD remain the most popular currency contract – their share exceeds 56% of total traded volume on the currency futures market.

Structured Products

In April the turnover value was PLN 15.42 million, of which PLN 0.43 million on the bonds market, and PLN 14.99 million on the certificates market. Traded volume exceeded 188 thousand instruments.

On 7 April, the eighth series of structured certificates, issued by Deutsche Bank AG London were listed. The structure of the instrument is identical with the previous seven series of express certificates issued by Deutsche Bank, already listed on the WSE.

On 21 April, BZ WBK Platinium structured bonds were listed. The bonds are based on the BNP Paribas Platinium PLN ER index. Further to introducing the bond to trading, the number of issuers of WSE-listed structured products has increased to seven. The new issuer is Luxemburg-based SecurAsset S.A

At the end of March, 58 structured products, including 11 bonds and 47 certificates (35 simple trackers, 1 bonus certificate, 1 guaranteed certificate, 2 short certificates, 8 express certificates) were listed at the WSE. In 2009 the range of structured products listed at the WSE was extended by a total of 12 products (11 certificates and 1 bond).
