In May 2008, the volume of trading in all derivative instruments was 0.67 million instruments. The volume of trading year to date was 5.3 million instruments, equal to 54% of the 2007 annual volume.
May 2008 was a month of less active trading on the futures market. In particular:- The total volume of trading in all derivative instruments was close to 12 million instruments in the past 12 months (June 2007 – May 2008);
- The volume of trading in stock contracts was 116,025 futures contracts in 2008, greater than the 2007 volume (the 2007 volume was 114,021 futures contracts). The volume of trading in the past 12 months was over 200 thousand contracts (precisely 200,647 futures contracts);
- The volume of trading in currency contracts was 21,843 futures contracts in 2008, 3.6 times more than the 2007 volume (the 2007 volume was 6,101 contracts);
- The number of open positions in all derivative instruments remained high, at 117,741 instruments at the end of May, of which 63% were WIG20 contracts, 25% were WIG20 options, and 12% were other derivative instruments.
