Better reflection of the size and diversity of our market, as well as better exposure for an additional ten companies, were the main motivations for our decision to introduce this important change for the Polish capital market. I am sure that the possibility of joining the elite group of blue chips will create interesting opportunities for companies and investors. I am confident that companies will make good use of this potential, - said Adam Maciejewski, CEO of the Warsaw Stock Exchange.

The new index reflecting the value of the largest listed companies will enable a reduction in the sectoral concentration of the WSE’s main index. Owing to the limit of seven companies from any one sector and the 10% cap on a single company’s contribution to the total index capitalization, there will be better representation of different sectors among the companies making up the index, and the sectoral diversification of companies listed on the WSE main floor will be better reflected in the composition of the index. The WIG30 includes companies from 13 different sectors, according to the classification used by the WSE. Two new sectors are included which were not represented in the WIG20: media and the metal industry.

The WSE has also decided to set the base value of the WIG30 equal to the base value of the WIG20 at 28 December 2012, in order to maintain the comparability of the two indexes.
