Warsaw Capital Market Summit 2015 to be held on 18 June - Warsaw Gathers Global Investors For The Fifth Time

Date 26/05/2015

Warsaw Capital Market Summit 2015 is an international conference devoted to capital markets in Poland, and Central and Eastern Europe. This year’s fifth edition will bring together investors, issuers, financial institutions and public administration representatives, as well as financial media from around the world and will take place in Warsaw at the Stock Exchange Centre.

Warsaw Capital Market Summit 2015 is one of the biggest conferences addressed to international investors and to companies interested in raising capital in Central and Eastern Europe. The event is organised by the Polish Ministry of Treasury, the Warsaw Stock Exchange (GPW) and Central Securities Depository of Poland with the support of Partners - global and regional financial institutions, and consultancy and law firms. During the one-day event, Warsaw becomes the centre of the region’s capital and financial markets. Each edition of the conference gathers hundreds of participants from numerous countries including Austria, Greece, Romania, Turkey, the UK and Ukraine amongst others.

It can be said that the 25 year period of Polish economic transition has been a period of continuous success. This period was fully utilised to help build an effective and safe capital market. “On-going privatisation, foreign investments and the development of the Warsaw Stock Exchange have defined the current status of the Polish capital market. Its size, international position and well-developed infrastructure are the best proof of the success of the transition process. Today Poland is recognised for its stable economic growth and effective implementation of market reforms. Although the era of large privatisation projects on the exchange is coming to an end, we will continue to support the Polish capital market by building the value of companies listed on the exchange and by launching further public offerings of companies in which the Treasury is a stakeholder either directly or indirectly.” said Włodzimierz Karpiński, Minister of Treasury, Republic of Poland.

Favourable macroeconomic conditions, exposure to the global financial markets and a stable financial situation are the key to attracting investors and issuers interested in raising capital in the region. The objective of GPW as the biggest exchange in the region is to remain the market of first choice for investors and issuers in Central and Eastern Europe.

“GPW has supported the Polish economy for more than two decades by providing investors and issuers with access to the largest market in the region. In the coming years we intend to unlock its full potential in order to become the market of first choice in this part of Europe. The Warsaw Capital Market Summit is one of the most important conferences devoted to the prospects and directions of development of regional capital markets, and an opportunity to establish new business relations. The topics of the conference are aligned with the broadly discussed EU project of building a Capital Markets Union aimed at facilitating access to capital by small and medium-sized enterprises. We are glad to meet prominent market experts and practitioners in Warsaw for the fifth time!” said Paweł Tamborski, President of the Management Board of GPW.

“KDPW Group is a leader of change in the region, providing services which are not available in other CEE markets. The registration of the KDPW Trade Repository by ESMA, the European authorisation of the KDPW_CCP Clearing House and assigning global LEIs (Legal Entity Identifiers) place us in the top league of European clearing and depository institutions. Our aim is to provide domestic and international investors with the most efficient services of the highest European standards. At this year's conference we will discuss with representatives of the financial market how new infrastructure solutions support investments on the Polish market. As co-organisers of this event we would like WCMS to trigger discussions which help further strengthen the position of Warsaw as a regional financial centre”, said Iwona Sroka, President of the Management Board of KDPW.

Conference programme

The conference includes four panel discussions featuring international investors and business practitioners. The topics include: the current and future attractiveness of CEE markets for investors; the experience of corporate restructuring and privatisation in the region; product innovations on the Polish investment market (for instance REITs); and the growing role of debt markets for CEEMEA investors.
