- Today’s share trading fees from LSE plc, Borsa Italiana and Turquoise to be donated to charity
- Goal is to raise over £400,000
- UNICEF and the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust open London market
London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) will today donate a day’s worth of share trading fees from across our markets - London Stock Exchange, Borsa Italiana and Turquoise – to charity. Distributed through the LSEG Foundation, the money raised will help support a wide range of charities in the communities in which the Group operates around the world.
To mark the occasion, Xavier Rolet, CEO, London Stock Exchange Group welcomed Michael Penrose, Executive Director, Unicef UK and Claire Amaladoss, Trustee, Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust (EMCT) to open trading on London’s markets this morning.
They were joined by representatives from a number of other charities supported by the Foundation, including Autistica, Leaders in the Community, MyBnk, Outward Bound Trust, Refuge, ROSA, Team Up and LSEG employees, many of whom have raised thousands of pounds for charity throughout the year.
Simultaneously, across LSEG’s offices in Milan, New York, Paris and Sri Lanka today, LSEG employees will be taking part in a number of activities to promote the work they do with local LSEG Foundation partner charities.
Xavier Rolet, CEO, LSEG:
“We are delighted to welcome two inspirational charities to London Stock Exchange today to open the market at the start of what we hope will be a buoyant day of trading. UNICEF, the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust and all of the other charities the LSEG Foundation supports around the world are an inspiration to us all. Together with our customers and employees, we will continue to raise money and promote their good work for disadvantaged youths.”
Michael Penrose, Executive Director, UnicefUK:
“Unicef is extremely proud of its partnership with LSEG. Over the years LSEG’s support has enabled Unicef to provide clean water, nutritional supplements and vital medicine to children around the world. Today, LSEG is supporting a vital programme in Zambia to equip young women with the skills they need to build a career and get ahead in life. LSEG is also helping to keep children safe in emergencies through its support for Unicef’s Children’s Emergency Fund.”
Frank Fletcher, CEO, Ellen Macarthur Cancer Trust:
“I would like to say a huge thank you to the London Stock Exchange Group Foundation on behalf of all of the young people who have been able to join the Trust on a four day trip because of the amazing support of the Foundation. Sailing is an exceptional platform for change - the young people take part in every aspect of running a yacht including domestic routines. They live, sleep and eat on the yacht and sail from place to place, enabling them to step out of their illness in an environment which is inspiring, safe and fun. They are with other young people who have undergone similar treatments, share the same worries and have also had their confidence stripped away. The atmosphere a boat creates has an incredibly positive effect, concentrating very much on what they can achieve rather than what they cannot.”
Since launching the Charity Trading Day, trading fees totalling over £2.5 million have been donated to more than 80 charities through the LSEG Foundation. In total, the LSEG Foundation has donated over £6 million to charity since its launch in 2010. It has matched over £250,000 raised by LSEG employees and this year launched a new volunteering policy, allowing colleagues across LSEG to take up to two paid days off to volunteer for a charity of their choice.
