Trading Volumes On The Spanish Exchange Through August Increase By 4.53%.

  • In August, the Spanish stock exchange traded €67.34 bn.
  • Trading in Futures and Options in August was 4.1 million contracts, up 43% from a year earlier. Highlights include Stock Futures, with 1.9 million contracts, up 308% from the previous year.

Equities

The number of trades on the Spanish stock exchange in the first eight months of the year rose 4.53% to 23.8 million from 22.8 million in the same period a year earlier. In August, the number of trades was 2.1 million.

Trading in equities on the Spanish market through SIBE in the first eight months of the year totalled €887.96 billion, up 27.7% from the same period in 2006 and down 20.9% from the same period in 2007. In August equity trading on SIBE came in at €67.34 bn.

In the ETF segment, trading volume from January to the end of August totalled €5.03 bn, up 106.5% from the same period in 2007.

Futures and Options

Trading in futures and options on BME’s derivatives market in August reached 4,119,536 contracts, up 43% from the same period a year earlier. Highlights include Stock Futures, with 1,935,710 contracts, up 308% from the previous year and Ibex 35 Options, up 136% from the previous year at 795,366.

The trading volume from January to the end of August totalled 52.8 million contracts, up 92% from the same period in 2007. It is worth mentioning the trading in Futures on Stocks, with 30.5 million contracts, up 255% from a year earlier, and IBEX 35 Options, up 59% from a year earlier at 5.3 million contracts.

Warrants and Certificates

The number of warrants admitted to trading between January and August totalled 5,776, up 26% from the same period in 2007.

In August, trading on the warrants market came in at €160 million and the number of trades was 32,112.

The trading volume on this market up to the end of August was €2.02, down 42.5% from a year earlier and the number of trades came in at 382,131, down 31.8% from the same period the previous year.

Corporate Debt

Corporate Debt trading in the month of August climbed 92.2% from a year earlier, to €173.73 bn. The trading volume from January to the end of August rose 78.3% from the same year-earlier period to €1.3 trillion.

New issues in August totalled €46.71 bn, up 0.5% from the same month in 2007. New issues so far this year stands at €493.59 bn, down 26.3% from the same period a year earlier.

The outstanding balance at the end of August stands at €826.68 bn, up 13% from a year earlier.

Public Debt

The volume of Public Debt traded on BME’s electronic debt market in August came in at €3.82 bn, which accounts for 72.3% of all the trading carried out on the different Spanish trading platforms.
