Equities
In January equity turnover on the Spanish market through SIBE amounted to €182.76 bn, which represents a year on year increase of 33% and a monthly record high. During this month the number of transactions came in at 4.31 million, up 60.5% on the same month last year.
The number of trades on Latibex, the market in euros for Latin American companies, increased by 10.7% relative to January 2007.
The value of trading on the ETF segment in January was €2.29 bn, a seven-fold increase from the same month in 2007. The number of trades increased by 91.5% on the year. Both figures represent monthly record highs.
The returns on the IBEX 35® index and IBEX 35® with dividends in January dropped by 12.87% and 12.37% respectively. The IBEX SMALL CAP®and the IBEX MEDIUM CAP® were down by 14.50% and 12.21% respectively. The IBEX TOP DIVIDENDO® decreased by 11.10% in January. The FTSE Latibex TOP suffered a correction of 9.95% and the FTSE Latibex Brasil lost 12.65% in the same month.
Warrants and Certificates
Trading volumes in January on the warrants and certificates market came in at €329 million, which represents a 6% decrease on the same month in 2007.The number of trades increased by 11% relative to January 2007 to 67,524.
Futures and Options
Futures and Options trading through MEFF in January came in at 5,689,680 contracts, 140% up on the year. It is worth mentioning the heavy trading volume in Stock Futures, with 2,472,529 contracts and a year on year increase of 505% and IBEX 35 Options, with 893,565 contracts and an annual rise of 141%.
In January trading in the IBEX 35 Futures contract, MEFF's flagship product, rose by 29% compared to 2007 to 811,168 contracts and the Mini IBEX Futures contract hit a monthly record high at 327,462 contracts, posting a 76% rise on the same month in 2007.
Corporate Debt
Corporate Debt trading on the Debt Market in January reached €116.78 bn, which represents a record high on this market. The number of trades in January also hit a record high at 74,580. New issues in January came in at a record €54.64 bn, and the outstanding balance at the end of the month was €768.89 bn.

Trading volume on SENAF, BME's Public Debt platform, was €11.71 bn in January.
