Trading Volumes On The Spanish Exchange Reached € 105.19 Bn In February - In The First Two Months Of 2008 The Value Of Trading On SIBE Was 12.35% More Than In The Same Period Last Year.

  • The number of trades in February increased 10.5% from a year earlier to 3.16 million. The annual increase for the first two months of the year was 34.8%.

  • Bonds and Obligations traded on SENAF reached € 8.47 in February, up 82% from the same month in 2007.

Equities

In February the value of trading on the Spanish market through SIBE amounted to € 105.19 bn, which represents a year on year decrease of 11.6% compared to the historic month of February recorded in 2007. The trading volume for the first two months of the year totalled € 287.98 bn, up 12.35% from the same period in 2007.

The number of trades recorded in February reported a year on year increase of 10.5% to 3.16.million. In the first two months of the year the number of trades increased by 34.8% from the same year-earlier period.

Trading on the Latibex market, the market in euros for Latin American companies, was € 34. million. The value of trading on the ETF segment in February came in at € 230 million, up 24.5% on the same period in 2007.

Futures and Options

Futures and Options trading through MEFF in February 2008 came in at 3,783,530 contracts, up 57% from the same month a year ago.

It is worth mentioning the heavy trading volume in Stock Futures, with 1,099,496 contracts, up 278% from a year earlier and treble the figure recorded in the same month 2007.

Mini IBEX Futures posted a strong performance in February, with 282,542 contracts and a 72% rise on the same month the previous year. Trading in Ibex 35 Options totalled 576,872 contracts, up 53% from the volume recorded a year earlier.

The value of trading for the first two months of the year marked the highest ever on MEFF for this period, at 9.5 million contracts, up 99% from a year earlier. Highlights include Stock Futures, with 3.6 million contracts and a 410% year on year increase and IBEX 35 Options, with 1.5 million contracts and a 97% annual rise. The IBEX 35 Future, MEFF’s flagship product posted 1.4 million contracts in the period, up 15% from 2007.

Warrants and Certificates

Trading volumes in February on the warrants and certificates market came in at € 303 million, which represents a 19.4% decrease on the same month in 2007. The number of trades reached 59,880, down 3.6% from a year earlier.

The trading volume for the first two months totalled 632 million euros, down 13% from 2007.

Corporate Debt

Corporate Debt trading on AIAF in February reached € 97.18 bn, which represents a 15.3% rise compared to the same period last year. The trading volume during the first two months of 2008 was € 213.97 bn, up 14.5% up on the same period 2007.

The number of trades on this market in February was 59,930, up 12.7% from the same month in 2007. The number of trades for the first two months of the year totalled 134,510.

New issues in February came in at € 29.98 bn, bringing the outstanding balance at the end of February to € 768.78, up 24.9% from a year earlier.

SENAF

Trading volume on BME’s public debt platform, SENAF, in February was € 10.66 bn, of which € 8.47 bn corresponded to Bonds and Obligations, which reported a 82% annual increase from the same month a year earlier.
