The European Energy Exchange (EEX) has recorded a total volume of 9.6 GWh through its new Trade-at-Index (TAI) functionality since its launch on 15 September 2026. The functionality saw immediate market adoption, with 5.2 GWh traded on the first day of availability.
The first transaction was concluded between EDF Trading and Nitor Energy A/S. The majority of trades executed through the new functionality have been priced against the recently introduced EEX530 index, making it the most frequently selected pricing reference among TAI transactions.
Anders Boesen, Chief Commercial Officer at Nitor Energy comments: "We are delighted to have been part of the first trade with the new EEX functionality. Our proprietary systems are built for constant change. The flexibility and speed to market they provide allow us to support new products from day one and quickly turn new market developments into trading opportunities."
Steffen Köhler, Chief Commercial Officer at EEX, comments: “We are pleased to see trading activity through the new Trade-at-Index functionality from the very first day. The initial volumes confirm demand for additional flexibility in gas spot trading through index-based pricing. It is particularly encouraging that the majority of transactions have been linked to the EEX530, demonstrating confidence in transparent, exchange-based reference prices."
The Trade-at-Index functionality enables market participants to trade Day and Weekend gas spot contracts at a price linked to an EEX reference index. Market participants can choose from the EEX530, the EEX End-of-Day Index and the EEX European Gas Spot Index (EGSI), allowing them to align transactions with different pricing and hedging requirements throughout the trading day.
The EEX530 index is the latest addition to this set of indices, calculated as the midpoint between the best bid and offer prices at 17:30 CE(S)T from Monday to Friday.
The launch forms part of EEX's ongoing commitment to expanding its gas market offering in line with customer needs. As Europe's largest gas spot exchange, EEX continues to develop transparent and efficient trading solutions for the European gas market.
