Toronto's Equity Markets Are The Best Performing In The World So Far In 2016

Toronto's equity markets are the best performing in the world, so far in 2016.

 

As at the end of July the S&P/TSX Composite Index was up 12%, far outstripping S&P 500, the FTSE 100, the NASDAQ Composite and all other major indices.

 

Even more impressive, the S&P/TSX Venture Composite Index was up by 51%. The world's most successful junior equity market is far outstripping markets such as London's AIM.

In 2015, TSX and TSX Venture Exchanges were #2 in the world by number of IPOs and new listings, and primary market activity continues to be strong in 2016.

 

Taking a sectoral view, in the first 7 months of 2016:

 

Mining - companies raised $6.8 billion

Oil & Gas - companies raised $7.2 billion
 

Innovation - companies raised $3.4 billion (includes clean technology, life sciences and technology companies). This includes a growing number of international listings from the USA, Europe and around the world.
