Highlights
1. Equity Market
[Equities]
- TOPIX rose 3.8% on the back of strong buying sentiment boosted by the US economic recovery, and
expectations over the appointment of a new Bank of Japan governor. Daily average trading value
surpassed 2 trillion yen for the second consecutive month, a level last seen in June 2008.
[ETF/ETN]
- TSE welcomed 4 ETNs tracking Korean and Hong Kong stocks on the 18th, followed by 2 ETFs, based
on the JDR scheme, linked to Chinese stocks on the 27th. These listings take the number of ETFs and
ETNs on the TSE market to 129.
[REIT]
- A Tokyu Land Corporation REIT listed on the 6th and a Prologis (US) REIT listed on the 14th, bringing
the number of REITs to 39. The TSE REIT index gained 6.8% to a 4.5-year high as buying sentiment
remained strong with growing hopes of exiting deflation.
2. Derivatives Market
[JGB Futures]
- Monthly trading volume for 10yr JGB futures was 779,481 contracts (daily average: 41,025 contracts),
up 17% year-on-year.
- Monthly trading volume during the evening session for 10yr JGB futures was 96,552 contracts (daily
average: 5,082 contracts), up 39% year-on-year.
[Index Futures]
- Monthly trading volume for TOPIX futures was 1,273,161 contracts (daily average: 67,008 contracts),
up 53% year-on-year.
- Monthly trading volume during the evening session for TOPIX futures was 66,608 contracts (daily
average: 3,506 contracts), up 2.7 times from last year.
- Monthly trading volume for mini TOPIX futures was 311,030 contracts (daily average: 16,370
contracts), up 91% year-on-year.
- Monthly trading volume during the evening session for mini TOPIX futures was 21,924 contracts (daily
average: 1,154 contracts), up 3.1 times from last year.
[Individual Options]
- Monthly trading volume for individual options was 37,487 contracts (daily average: 1,973 contracts), up
18% year-on-year.
