Equities

-In 2012, TOPIX made a positive transition from early in the year, but went into decline after April following the deterioration of economic indicators worldwide. It continued at the 700-point level, with trading value also staying at low levels. In November, expectations picked up for a new administration, financial easing measures, and the largely weakened yen, with a market rally accompanying an increase in trading.
-TOPIX rose 18.0% year-on-year on December 28th to close at 859.80.

ETF.ETN

-In 2012, Japan's first leveraged and inverse ETFs, "TOPIX Bull 2x ETF (1568)" and "TOPIX Bear -1x ETF (1569)" were listed. Both issues saw rises in trading volume, to become the ETF market's flagship issues for the year.
-The total number of listed ETFs/ETNs reached 123 (a gain of 7 issues from last year).

REIT

-Trading volume for 2012 reached 13,819 thousand units, surpassing 2011's 10,577 thousand units to reach a new record high.
-The TSE REIT Index garnered attention thanks to hopes of financial easing and high returns, making a bullish transition in the latter half of the year. On December 28th, the TSE REIT Index rose 33.6% year-on-year to close at 1114.68 points.

Derivatives Market

JGB Futures

-Annual evening trading volume for 10-year JGB Futures was 1,041,082 contracts (a 76% gain on last year), setting a new record since the start of the evening trading session.
-Annual trading volume of 10-year JGB Futures was 8,865,284 contracts, a 29% gain on the previous year.

Index Futures

-Annual evening trading volume for TOPIX futures was 622,254 contracts (a 81% gain on last year), setting a new record since the start of the evening trading session.
-Annual trading volume of Mini-TOPIX Futures was 2,148,039 contracts (a 246% gain on last year), reaching a new historical record.
-Annual evening trading volume for Mini-TOPIX Futures was 108,823 contracts (a 543% gain on last year), setting a new record since the start of the evening trading session.

Options on JGB Futures

-Annual trading volume of Options on 10-year JGB Futures was 2,283,839 contracts, a 23% gain on the previous year.
