Tokyo Stock Exchange: Change Of TOPIX 1000 FLOAT Customized Index To TOPIX 1000 CSR

Tokyo Stock Exchange, Inc. (TSE) has previously announced that beginning in fall of this year, the exchange will begin to incorporate the element of corporate social responsibility (CSR) into calculation of the "TOPIX 1000 FLOAT," which is calculated and provided as a customized index*, and change the name to "TOPIX 1000 CSR." TSE is now announcing that this change will be implemented on November 1, 2006.

Major characteristics of TOPIX 1000 CSR are as follows,

1. The 1,000 domestic issues listed on the TSE First Section that have the highest market capitalization and liquidity (market value) will be eligible for the index.

2. These 1,000 issues will be screened through a process that incorporates the element of CSR**.(TSE will collaborates with The Good Bankers Co.,Ltd. and Mitsubishi UFJ Research and Consulting Co.,Ltd., companies with expertise in CSR research in Japan.)

3. Both regular and extraordinary screenings will be conducted taking into account the management of the index fund.

4. Regular selection of the top 1,000 issues will be made twice a year (January: addition and exclusion, July: addition only).

5. The index takes investability into consideration by making adjustments according to free-float shares. (In addition to regular reviews, free-float weight may be reviewed extraordinarily based on events such as allocation of new shares to a third party, etc.)

6. Stocks tentatively delisted due to stock-swap etc. will be continuously included in this index.
