The Tokyo Commodity Exchange, Inc. (TOCOM) announced the first trades for Technically Specified Rubber (TSR) futures, which was launched today. A total of 2,088 contracts were traded the first day.
“I would like to thank all parties concerned for their understanding and cooperation – the listing could not have been realized without them”, commented Takamichi Hamada, TOCOM President & CEO. “We designed new contract specifications for TSR, which the standard FOB deliverable in Thailand, the world’s largest rubber producer. The contract will also support Chinese participants, the world’s largest rubber consumer. We expect active trading in these two countries, Japan and others in Asia. The launch of TSR is part of our continued efforts to develop a global marketplace and expand TOCOM’s market presence.”
At today’s press conference, Mr. Choltisak Chawpaknum, Minister-Counsellor (Agriculture) of the Royal Thai Embassy in Tokyo, read a message from Mr. Krisada Boonrach, Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives of Thailand: “I would like to express our congratulations to TOCOM for the listing of TSR Futures today. TOCOM Rubber has long been the global benchmark and all parties involved in the rubber industry of Thailand are proud of their participation in the long course of its development. We hope that TSR manufactured in Thailand, which now trades on TOCOM, will attract consumers of natural rubber in Japan, China and many other countries as a new option for high quality TSR. Last but far from least, we desire the launch of TOCOM’s new TSR contracts will lead to lasting prosperity of Japan, Thailand, and particularly our rubber farmers.”
