TMX Welcomes International Mining Community To Toronto With A Series Of Events During PDAC

The Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada's (PDAC) annual convention is currently underway and TMX Group has a number of events planned to welcome the almost 20,000 registrants who are expected to attend the four-day event.

A series of market openings are planned at Toronto Stock Exchange. On March 2, a delegation of African mining countries opened trading. Toronto Stock Exchange and TSX Venture Exchange have 12 Africa-based issuers, as well as 165 other listed companies that are exploring throughout Africa. Today, officials from PDAC opened trading on Toronto Stock Exchange, and on March 4, the market will be opened by a delegation of Latin American mining companies.

Also on March 4, Toronto Stock Exchange and TSX Venture exchange will host "Latin American Mining Deal Day". During the half-day event, Latin American mining companies and advisors will gather to explore financing opportunities in the Canadian capital markets and to meet with key advisors in the areas of investment banking and law.

Toronto Stock Exchange and TSX Venture Exchange listings staff are also speaking at six sessions during the PDAC Convention.

As at December 31, 2008, 57% of the world's mining companies were listed on TMX Group's equity exchanges. 1,427 mining issuers - with a combined market capitalization of $215 billion - were listed on Toronto Stock Exchange and TSX Venture Exchange. There were 138 new mining listings in 2008 and almost $8.3 billion in equity financing was raised on the two exchanges last year.
