Yesterday was a record-breaking trading day for TMX Group trading platforms: TSX Quantum and MX SOLA®.
On Toronto Stock Exchange’s Quantum platform, total transactions on September 18, 2008 were 1,490,580, breaking a record set the previous day. The value of trades was $19,267,882,779 yesterday, breaking the previous record of $15,613,865,327 set on May 2, 2000. Yesterday’s daily volume was 861,214,881 breaking our previous record of 711,388,003 set August 16, 2007.
BOX, a U.S. automated equity options market, in which Montreal Exchange holds a 53% ownership interest, also set a trading record yesterday with 1,702,849 contracts traded. The previous record was set on July 15, 2008 with 1,451,453 contracts. The BOX record in turn led to record activity on Montreal Exchange’s SOLA® platforms with a combined total of 1,901,916 contracts traded. The previous record of 1,605,115 contracts for combined trading on the SOLA® platform was also set on July 15, 2008.
