TMX Group today announced its financing activity on Toronto Stock Exchange and TSX Venture Exchange for December and full-year 2010.
Kevan Cowan, President, TSX Markets and TMX Group Head of Equities, noted: “IPO activity on Toronto Stock Exchange and TSX Venture Exchange was up significantly in 2010 as organizations of all sizes chose our markets to raise capital and fuel growth and innovation. In total, over $54 billion was raised by Canadian and international issuers reinforcing the important role played by our two central national exchanges in the growth and success of Canada's capital markets.”
Toronto Stock Exchange and TSX Venture Exchange together welcomed 71 new international listings in 2010, compared to the previous record of 49 in 2008. Overall mining sector listings increased to 208 in 2010, compared to the previous record of 184 in 2007.
In December 2010, 32 new issuers listed on Toronto Stock Exchange, including 21 IPOs, compared to 18 new issuers and 12 IPOs in November 2010. Total financing raised in December 2010 was $8.0 billion, compared to $4.5 billion the previous month, an increase of 79%.
In 2010, Toronto Stock Exchange added 187 new issuers, including 119 IPOs, compared to 100 new issuers, including 60 IPOs, in 2009. Though overall financing activity was down in 2010 compared to 2009, IPO financing on Toronto Stock Exchange more than doubled, with $10.7 billion raised in 2010, compared to $4.8 billion in 2009.
In December 2010, 25 new issuers listed on TSX Venture Exchange, compared to 19 the previous month. Total financings raised were $1.7 billion, up from $1.5 billion in November 2010, representing an increase of 14%.
In 2010, TSX Venture Exchange exceeded 2009 figures in all measures with 185 new issuers, including 142 IPOs, compared to 107 new issuers, including 72 IPOs, in 2009. Total financings raised during the year increased by 96% over 2009.
