Thierry Francq Appointed Autorité Des Marchés Financiers Secretary General

Thierry Francq has been appointed Secretary General of the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) from 1 March 2009. The appointment was made on the recommendation of the AMF Chairman, after obtaining the opinion of the Board and the assent of the Minister for the Economy, Industry and Employment1.

Born in April 1964 Thierry Francq graduated from Ecole Polytechnique and the Paris Graduate School of Economics, Statistics and Finance (ENSAE). He began his career in 1988 at the Forecasting Directorate of the Ministry for the Economy, Industry and Employment as deputy director of the external bureau and, subsequently, of financial transactions. In 1992 he joined the Treasury, serving as deputy head of the housing financing division and, from 1995, as the head of the division responsible for the policy of France in relation to the International Monetary Fund and international financial system and for the preparation of G7 summits.

From March 2000 to May 2002, Mr Francq served as deputy director of the Treasury, with responsibility for insurance regulation, and then from June 2002 until May 2004 as deputy director of the French Government Shareholding Agency before being appointed assistant secretary in charge of the financial sector at the Treasury and Economic Policy Directorate General, part of the Ministry for the Economy, Finance and Industry.
