The Value Of Trading On The Spanish Stock Exchange In November Reached € 151.82 Bn, Up 23.6% From A Year Earlier

  • The trading volume in equities to November totalled €1.6 trillion, an increase of 50.5% from the same period in 2006.
  • The volume of corporate debt traded on the AIAF between January and November exceeded €1 trillion, up 24.5% over the same period in 2006.
  • As regards Options and Futures, in November 4,441,037 contracts were traded on MEFF, a 22% increase over the same month in 2006. Highlights for the month include the performance of the Mini IBEX 35 Futures, with 299,125 contracts traded, and Stock Options, with 1,650,830 contracts, posting year on year increases of 71% and 60% respectively.

Equities

In November, trading in equities on the Spanish market through SIBE reached a total of € 151.82 billion, an increase of 23.6% from the same month in 2006. The number of trades rose 30% in the same period to 3.35 million.

The accumulated trading volume for the first eleven months of the year climbed 50.5% from the same period in 2007 to € 1.6 trillion; the number of trades rose 53.6% in the same period to 32 million.

In November trading on the Latibex, BME’s market for Latin American shares, was up 16% from a year earlier. As regards the ETF segment, trading on this market came in at 473 million euros.

Warrants and Certificates

In November, trading on the market for warrants and certificates totalled € 503 million, an increase of 53.8% over the same year-earlier period. The number of trades surged 63.9% in this same period to 86,302.

The accumulated figure for 2007 reached € 4.94 billion, up 80.6% from the same period in 2006. The number of trades rose by 77.7%.

Futures and Options

Trading in futures and options on the MEFF market reached 4,441,037 contracts, up 22% from the same year earlier period.

Highlights for the month include the performance of the Mini IBEX Futures, with 299,125 contracts, and that of Stock Options, with 1,650,830 contracts, representing increases of 71% and 60%, respectively. In the same period, trading in IBEX 35 Futures, MEFF’s flagship product, grew 15% to 703,671 contracts.

The trading volume for the first eleven months of the year totalled 43.3 million contracts. Highlights include the strong performance of IBEX 35 Futures, with 7.9 million contracts traded and a year on year increase of 35% and Mini IBEX Futures, with 2.7 million contracts and a 83% increase over the same period in 2006.

Corporate Debt

The volume of Corporate Debt traded in November reached € 90.24 billion. Between January to November trading topped € 1trillion (€ 1.013 bn), an increase of 24.5% over the same period in 2006.

New issues in November came in at € 46.15 bn. Between January to November they totalled € 596.94 billion, up 29 % from the same year earlier period.

The outstanding balance at the end of November came in at € 748.98 billion, up 30.4% from a year earlier. Net financing provided by the Corporate Debt market during the first eleven months of 2007 totalled € 160.04 bn, 21.2% up from the same period in 2006.

SENAF

In November the volume of Public Debt traded on SENAF, the electronic debt market, continued the upward trend started in August, recording € 12.27 billion.
