The Spanish Stock Exchange Trades €1.2 Billion In Eleven Months - The Number Of Trades Grows By 8.6% Up To November

  • Trading volume on the Spanish stock exchange in November came in at €73.16 bn.
  • ETF trading in the first eleven months was up 55.6% from the same period in 2007.
  • The Derivatives Market traded 6.4 million contracts in November, up 45% from the same month a year earlier. It is worth mentioning the trading in Stocks Futures, up 121% from a year earlier, at 3.2 million contracts and IBEX 35 Options, at 551,041 contracts, up 61% from a year earlier.
  • Trading Volume up to November on the Debt Corporate market exceeded €2 trillion and almost doubled the figure posted for the entire year 2007.
  • Daily Trading volumes on the Corporate Debt market hit a record high on November 25th, at €26.88 bn.

Equities

The number of equity trades on the Spanish stock exchange to the end of November came in at 34.8 million, up 8.6% from the 32 million recorded in the same month in 2007. In November there were 3.3 million equity trades.

The trading volume for the first eleven months of the year totaled €1.2 trillion, up 14.2% from the same period in 2006 and down 24.1% from the same period in 2007. The equity trading volume reported by the Spanish electronic order book (SIBE) in November came in at €73.16 bn.

Up to November trading on the ETFs segment reached €6.70 bn, up 55.6% from the same period in 2007. In November trading on this segment was €213.7 million.

Futures and Options

In November trading on BME’s Derivatives Market came in at 6.4 million contracts, up 45% from a year earlier. Highlights include Futures on Stocks, with 3.2 million contracts traded, up 121% from the same period a year earlier, and IBEX 35 Options, at 551,041 contracts, up 61% from a year earlier.

The trading volume on this market for the first eleven months of the year totaled 74.5 million contracts, up 72% from the same period in 2007. Highlights include Futures on Stocks, up 165% from a year earlier, at 41.6 million contracts, and IBEX Options, up 47% from a year earlier, at 7.4 million contracts.

Warrants and Certificates

The number of warrants admitted to trading to the end of November 8,148, up 22% from the same period in 2007.

Trading volumes in November on the warrants and certificates market came in at €205.9 million and the number of trades reached 40,272.

The trading volume to the end of November on this segment came in at €2.8 bn, down 43.4% from 2007 while the number of trades was 553,770, down 30% from the same period a year earlier.

Corporate Debt

Corporate Debt trading in November was €293.17 bn, up 224.9% from the same period a year ago. The trading volume in the first eleven months of the year was €2.1 trillion, up 106.1% from the same period a year earlier and almost double the total trading volume posted in 2007. On November 25th the market hit a daily record high in trading volume, at €26.89 bn. The trading volume daily average in November came in at €14.65 bn.

New issues in November came in at €42.91bn, down 7% from a year earlier. The total volume of new issues to the end of November was €431.48 bn, down 27.7% from the same period last year. The outstanding balance at the end of November was €813.2bn, up 8.6% from a year earlier.

Public Debt

In November trading volume on BME’S Public Debt market was €3.83 bn, representing a 88.7% market share of all the domestic trading platforms in Spain, from 75.9% a month earlier.
