The Spanish Stock Exchange Traded €48.2 Billion In September, Up 33% From August

    The equity trading volume on the Spanish Stock Exchange in September reached €48.2 billion, in line with last year’s and was up 33.1% on the preceding month of August. At the end of the third quarter the accumulated trading volume totaled €484.4 billion, down 8.4% year on year.

    The number of trades in September reached 4.7 million, up 88.6% from the same period last year. The number of trades in the first nine months came in at 33.2 million, down 1.1% from the same period in 2012.

    As for the ETF segment, the trading volume in September came in at €350.1 million, up 27.9% year on year. The trading volume in this segment to the end of September came in at €2.4 billion, up 11.9% from the same period last year.

    The number of ETF trades to the end of September totaled 46,878, up 3.3% year on year. The number of trades in September reached 5,638, up 13.5% from the same month in 2012.

    Futures and Options

    In September trading on BME’s Derivatives Market came in at 5.4 million contracts, of which 573,415 correspond to the Index Futures segment, where trading grew 13.2%.

    Warrants and Certificates

    The volume of warrants and certificates admitted to trading in 2013 totaled 5,972. Trading on this market in the first nine months totaled €586.8 million, down 7.4% from the same period in 2012. The trading volume in September came in at €52.3 million, down 22.1% from September 2012.

    The number of trades in the first nine months in this market totaled 138,844, down 14.7% year on year. The number of trades in September reached 12,963, down 27.2% from September 2012.

    Fixed Income

    Trading on BME’s Corporate Debt market in September reached €58.8 billion, while in the first three quarters it totalled €1 trillion, down 44.9% from the same period in 2012.

    Trading on SEND in September increased 54.5% year on year while to the end of September it totaled €1.8 billion, treble the amount recorded in the first three quarters of 2012.

    In September trading in Public Debt on SENAF, BME’s wholesale trading platform, reached €6.2 billion, more than triple the amount recorded in the same period in 2012. To the end of September trading in this segment totaled €41.2 billion, up 24% from the same period last year.
