The Spanish Stock Exchange Traded €36.27 Billion In August, Up 8% Year On Year

Equities

The equity trading volume on the Spanish Stock Exchange in August reached €36.2 billion, up 8% on the same period in 2012. It marks the second consecutive month with a year-on-year increase. During the first eight months of the year, the trading volume totaled €436.1 billion, down 9.2% from the same period in 2012.

The number of trades in August reached 3.6 million, up 54% from the same period last year. The number of trades in the first eight months came in at 28.5 million, down 8.2% from the same period in 2012.

As for the ETF segment, the trading volume in the first eight months came in at €2.1 billion, up 9.7% year on year. The trading volume in this segment in August came in at €361.6 million, down 47.6% from August 2012 and up 37% from July 2013.

The number of ETF trades to the end of August totaled 41,240, up 2% year on year. The number of trades in August reached 5,071, down 19% from the same month in 2012 and up 0.6% from the previous month.

Futures and Options

In August trading on BME’s Derivatives Market came in at 2.4 million contracts, down 17% from the same period last year.  By segment, it is worth mentioning the activity on Options on Indices, at 528,038 contracts, up 57.6% from August 2012.

Warrants and Certificates

The volume of warrants and certificates admitted to trading in 2013 totaled 5,376. Trading on this market in the first eight months totaled €534.5 million, down 5.7% from the same period in 2012. The trading volume in August came in at €58.7 million, down 16.8% from August 2012.

The number of trades in the first eight months in this market totaled 125,881, down 13.2% year on year. The number of trades in August reached 13,346, down 20.3% from August 2012.

Fixed Income

Trading on BME’s Corporate Debt market in August reached €76.6 billion, down 60.2% year on year. New issues in August totaled €10 billion, down 45.5% from August 2012.

The trading volume on SEND (Retail Fixed Income platform) in August came in at €102 million, up 49.3% from the same month in 2012. The number of trades on this platform came in at 5,905, double the amount recorded in August last year.

In August trading in Public Debt on SENAF, BME’s wholesale trading platform, reached €3.7 billion, more than triple the amount recorded in the same period in 2012.
