The Spanish Stock Exchange Traded € 1.23 Trillion To September, 7% Over The Entire 2006 Figure

  • In September equity turnover on SIBE came in at € 107.98 bn, 5.7% up on the year.
  • MEFF traded 6,933,233 contracts in September, 29% on the same month last year. Highlights include Mini IBEX Futures, at 243,251 contracts and stock options, at 1,270,688 contracts, posting year on year increases of 108% and 49% respectively.
  • The trading volume on AIAF in September came in at € 82.36 bn, a 27.3% increase on the same period last year.

Cash

In September trading in equities on the Spanish market through SIBE amounted to € 107.98 bn, which represents a year on year increase of 5.7%. The number of trades reached 2.6 million, 39% up on the year.

The accumulated trading volume posted since January has come in at € 1.23 trillion, 54.4 % up on 2006. The number of trades was 62.1% up on the year to 25.4 million. These accumulated figures exceeded those for the entire year 2006 to hit two record highs.

Trading on the Latibex market in September exceeded that reached in the same month last year by 4.2%.

The ETFs segment posted an effective trading volume in September of € 165 million.

Warrants and Certificates

Trading volumes in September 2007 on the warrants and certificates market came in at € 438 million, which represents a 105.4% increase over the same month in 2006. The number of trades reached 67,509, which represents a 95.2% increase on the same month last year.

The accumulated figure up to September was € 3.95 bn, 88.5% up on 2006.

The Spanish stock exchange today started trading 13 turbo warrants issued by BNP Paribas on the IBEX 35 index. Of them 8 are call warrants and the rest put. The warrants issued are European style, with expiry date in December 2007.

Futures and Options

In September Futures and Options trading through MEFF came in at 6,933,233 contracts, 29% on the year. It is worth mentioning the strong trading volume reached by Mini IBEX Futures, MEFF’s flagship product, with 243,251 contracts and Stock Options, at 1,270,688 contracts, posting respective increases of 108% and 49%. The IBEX 35 Futures, MEFF’s main contract, posted a 23% increase on 2006.

The accumulated trading volume on MEFF for the first 9 months of the year was 34.5 million contracts. Highlights include IBEX 35 Futures, which posted 6.5 million contracts, 40% up on the year, and Mini IBEX 35 Futures, with 2.1 million contracts and a 86% annual increase.

AIAF

Corporate Debt trading on AIAF in September was € 82.36 bn, 27.3% up on the year, leaving an accumulated trading volume to September of € 822.86 bn and posting a 30.1% increase on the year.

New issues in September came in at € 46.01 bn, 34% up on 2006. The total volume of new issues to the end of September was € 495.45 bn, recording a 33.1% increase on the same period last year.

The outstanding balance at the end of September was € 729.77 bn, 33% up on the year.
