The Spanish Exchange today began to trade 85 new warrants, 53 of which were issued by Bankinter and 32 by Societé Générale. With these issues, the number of new warrants traded on the market so far this year is 2,378, hitting a new record.
The 53 call and put warrants issued by Bankinter are linked to the IBEX 35 and BBVA, SCH and Telefónica’s shares. They are European style, that is, they can be exercised automatically and their expiry dates are December 2006 and March and June 2007.
As to the warrants issued by Societé Générale, they are linked to Spanish and foreign shares and indices as well as commodities.
8 warrants were issued on Spanish shares linked to Acerinox and Banco de Sabadell’s shares, the latter being incorporated into the market as underlying asset for the first time.
14 warrants were issued on foreign shares and they are linked to the following underlying assets: Alcatel, Apple, Cisco Systems, Deutsche Telekom, Ebay, Mittal and Yahoo. One issue was made on the IBEX 35 and as regards commodities 5 warrants were issued on the gold ounce.
It is worth mentioning the incorporation, for the first time, of the new underlying asset World Water Index (WOWAX), a recently created index managed by Dow Jones and which comprises water companies.
All these warrants have expiry dates in March 2007 and are exercised automatically. They are American style except the warrants whose underlying asset is the gold ounce, which are European style.
