The Spanish Exchange Traded 63.26 Billion Of Euros In September - Monthly Trading Statements For BME Markets

Equities

The trading volume to the end of September in the Spanish Stock Exchange totalled €743.1, up 16.5% from the same period a year earlier. The equity trading volume in September came in at €63.26 bn, down 3% from the same month a year earlier.

The number of trades in the first nine months of 2010 totalled 29.3 million, up 26% from the same period a year earlier. The number of trades in September came in at 2.9 million, down 4.9% from the same month in 2009.

The trading volume on the ETF segment since January came in at €5.13 bn, up 116% from the same period in 2009. In September the traded volume was €186 million.

In September the number of trades on the ETF segment came in at 3,905, down 21% from the same month in 2009. The number of trades to the end of September totalled 52,858, up 44% from the same period a year earlier. The figure exceeds the total number of trades for the year 2009.

Futures and Options

In September trading on MEFF, BME’s Derivatives Market, came in at 7.65 million contracts, the highest monthly figure so far this year.

There was heavy trading in Equity Futures, with a trading volume of 3.55 million contracts, the highest figure so far this year.

During the first nine months of 2010 the number of trades grew by 18.6% to 4.4 million.

The notional value of the contracts for the first nine months of the year was up 21%, at €605.07 bn.

Warrants and Certificates

The number of warrants issued to the end of September totalled 5,710.

Trading volume in September on the warrants and certificates market came in at €134 million, down 1.8% from the same month a year earlier. The number of trades was 24,002, down 17% from the same period a year ago.

The trading volume to the end of September totalled €1.25 billion, down 11.3% from the same period in 2009. The number of trades was 1.8% down on the previous year, at 271,880.

Corporate Debt

Corporate Debt trading on BME’s Market, AIAF, in September totalled €342.58 bn, up 42% from the same period a year earlier and the highest figure so far this year. The trading volume to the end of September reached €2.18 trillion, down 23.9% from the same period a year earlier.

New issues in September came in at €13.67 bn and at €175.21 bn for the first nine months. The outstanding balance of Corporate Debt at the end of September was €851.81 bn, down 4% year on year.

In September trading on BME’s Public Debt electronic platform reached €20.90 bn, up 9.9% year on year, leaving a trading volume of €196.91 bn for the first nine months of the year, up 87.9% on the year.
