The Philadelphia Stock Exchange and its wholly owned subsidiary Philadelphia Board of Trade (PBOT) announced today that it will offer for the first time futures on its industry-leading sector indexes, The PHLX Oil Service SectorSM (OSXSM), The PHLX Semiconductor SectorSM (SOXSM), and The PHLX Housing SectorSM (HGXSM). In 2007, PHLX traded 2.69 million options contracts on these three indexes.
"Futures on PHLX sector indexes deliver product diversification for traders seeking to build complex strategies against securities options," said Daniel R. Carrigan, PHLX’s vice president of new product development. “On top of new trading opportunity, market makers may place PBOT futures in a cross-margin account at The Options Clearing Corporation (OCC) to more efficiently manage capital,” added Carrigan
The Philadelphia Stock Exchange was founded in 1790. The PHLX trades more than 7,000 stocks, 2,639 equity options, 18 sectors index options, options on all major currencies, and futures through its subsidiary, The Philadelphia Board of Trade (PBOT).
