The Options Industry Council Announces September Options Volume Down 4 Percent

The Options Industry Council (OIC) announced today that 315,911,302 total options contracts traded in September, which is 4.16 percent less than last September when 329,627,631 contracts were traded.

Year-to-date volume stood at 3,074,874,727 contracts, 1.43 percent more than September of last year when 3,031,485,451 contracts were traded. Average daily volume for the month was 15,795,565 contracts, 8.95 percent less than last September’s 17,348,823 contracts.

Equity options volume (options on individual stocks and ETFs) came in at 285,831,547 contracts, down 5.17 percent compared to last September when 301,402,163 contracts were exchanged. Average daily volume for equity options in September came in at 14,291,577 contracts, off of last year’s 15,863,272 contracts by 9.91 percent. Year-to-date equity options volume stood at 2,787,251,796 contracts, which is 0.24 percent less than the 2,794,080,742 contracts traded at the same point last year.
