The Montreal Exchange Celebrates The 25th Anniversary Of Its Options Market

Date 16/09/2000

On September 15, the Montreal Exchange proudly celebrated the 25th anniversary of its stock options market. September 15, 1975 was the first day that the Montreal Exchange began listing stock options.

“Back in 1975, the Montreal Exchange was very proud to be the first to bring this market to Canada. And we are still proud, now more than ever. In fact, we are recognized today as the sole options market in the country. Our efforts have certainly paid off and our success is undeniable,” says Luc Bertrand, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Montreal Exchange.

Currently, 91 stock options classes and 20 long-term stock options (LEAPS®) classes are listed on the Montreal Exchange.

The Montreal Exchange is recognized as the Canadian Derivatives Exchange. Founded more than 125 years ago, the Montreal Exchange has always played a leading local, national and international role. The Montreal Exchange was the first Canadian exchange to list options and, subsequently, to establish a major futures market. The Montreal Exchange is a member of the GLOBEX Alliance, the first international electronic trading network of derivative products. The Montreal Exchange provides both individual and institutional investors with a full range of products adapted to market needs.
