H1 2017 Update

The IPO market in Canada surged in H1 2017, with 6 corporate IPOs on TSXV and 9 on TSX. Companies like Canada Goose (TSX:GOOS), Zymeworks (TSX:ZYME) and Superior Gold (TSXV:SGI) showed the diversity of the IPO market, representing Consumer Products & Services, Innovation and Mining sectors. 

Robert Peterman, VP of Global Business Development at TSX and TSXV, reviews the first half of 2017 in an update video and discusses the activity driving the capital markets. 

The Consumer Products & Services sector had two big IPOs in H1 2017 -- Canada Goose and Freshii (TSX:FRII) -- as well as two food services listings -- Organic Garage (TSXV:OG) and Goodfood Market (TSX:FOOD).  In total, the seven new Consumer issuers have a combined market capitalization of over $1 billion. 

The Innovation sector saw 18 new issuers in H1 2017, including three IPOs, and the sector's equity capital raised was bolstered by large deals like Shopify's (TSX:SHOP) $776 million public offering and Real Matters' (TSX:REAL) $157 million IPO. 


The Mining sector showed that it is on the rise, with 25 new TSXV issuers and five graduates to TSX. The sector raised $3.8 billion in the first six months of 2017, with deals like Cobalt 27's (TSXV:KBLT) $200 million public offering and Leagold's (TSXV:LMC) $175 million public offering.
