On Thursday, 1 February 2007, in the course of trading in securities on the MICEX Stock Exchange, the MICEX Index reached its record-high value of 1707.39 points. The index value at the close amounted to its historical maximum, 1702.85 points.
The previous record-high value of the MICEX Index, 1698.44 points, was reached on 29 December 2006. The historical minimal value of the MICEX Index, 18.53 points, was registered on 5 October 1998.
Besides, as a result of trading on the MICEX Stock Exchange held 1 February 2006, the volume of trades in securities amounted to 159.62 billion rubles (6.01 billion US dollars). The main trading mode accounted for 75.0 billion rubles, the negotiated deals mode accounted for 26.2 billion rubles and repos accounted for 58.4 billion rubles. The volume of trades in shares (without repos) amounted to 75.7 billion rubles, bonds (without repos) accounting for 25.4 billion rubles, equity repos accounting for 32.0 billion rubles and bond repos accounting for 26.4 billion rubles. This is a record-high value of daily turnover over the whole history of trading in the MICEX Group’s stock market, launched in March 1997.
In the course of the trading session held 1 February 2007, the top gainers among the MICEX Index component stocks were common and preference shares in Sberbank (6.0% and 5.0% correspondingly), common shares in Norilsk Nickel (5.9%), common shares in RBK Information Systems (4.7%). Today, shares in Gazprom, Sberbank, RAO UES, LUKoil and Rosneft have the largest weight in the MICEX Index.
Turnover of securities comprising the MICEX Index exceeds 97% of the total turnover of the share market on the MICEX Stock Exchange, while the capitalization of the MICEX Index component stocks amounts to over 80% of the capitalization of the exchange-based share market.

The MICEX Index, which is the price-weighted index of Russia’s most liquid stocks, has been calculated since 22 September 1997. At present, the MICEX Index is comprised of 21 securities. The MICEX Index is calculated in the real-time mode. The market capitalization of the MICEX Index component stocks is calculated taking into account the free-float. Today, the MICEX Index is as an underlying asset for 20 index funds. The total value of their assets amounts to 4.6 billion rubles.
