Listing

Total number of listed companies on EGX in September 2008 increased to 377 companies as opposed to 376 in the previous month.

There were three new listed companies this month, with a total capitalization of US$ 54 million (LE 297 million).

Turnover

Total number of trading days in September 2008 amounted to 21 days with total value traded of US$ 4,654.69 million (LE 25,554.24 million). Value traded of listed securities amounted to US$ 4,093.44 million (LE 22,472.99 million), of which shares, bonds and funds represented 92.92%, 7.08% and 0.00%, respectively. Unlisted securities i.e. Over the Counter trading reached US$ 561.25 million (LE 3,081.25 million), which represents 12% of total value traded for the month.

This is in comparison to August 2008, when value traded of listed securities amounted to US$ 3,907.14 million (LE 20,981.36 million), of which shares represented 97.47%, bonds 2.53% and funds 0.00%. In addition, the OTC trading amounted to US$ 267.62 million (LE 1,437.14 million) i.e. 6% of total trading (on- and off-exchange trading) which reached US$ 4,174.76 million (LE 22,418.50 million).

Total volume traded of listed securities market for this month reached 1,617.08 million securities.

During September 2008, 815,261 transactions were concluded with an average of 38,822 trades per day, as opposed to 828,282 transactions and an average of 39,442 trades per day in August 2008.

Indices

CASE 30 price index, the official market index, witnessed a 16.46% decrease in September 2008 to reach 7059.16 points and witnessed a YoY decline of 18.75%.

Likewise, the Dow Jones CASE Egypt Titans 20 index witnessed a 16.71% decrease in September, to close at 1480.7 points 29/09/2008, and a 19.52% decrease on a YoY basis.

Price Movements of Selected Shares

The ten most active stocks represented 57.19% of the total value & 71.09% of the total volume of shares traded for the month.

During the month of September, the top five gainers, on the official EGX market, were (in descending order of price change) Prime Holding (+73%), Mohandes Insurance (+45%), Assiut Islamic Trading (+35%), Egyptians Abroad for Investment & Development (+29%) and Memphis Pharmaceuticals (+17%).

The top five losers were (in ascending order of price change) Namaa for Development and Real Estate Investment Co. (-38%), Pioneers Holding (-38%), Egypt for Poultry (-36%), Heliopolis Housing (-33%) and South Valley Cement (-32%).

Market Capitalization

Total market capitalization of shares amounted to US$ 113.3 billion (LE 622.2 billion) as of end of September 2008 compared to US$ 129.4 billion (LE 694.6 billion) in August 2008, representing a 10.4% decrease.

The bond capitalization recorded US$ 867 million (LE 4.8 billion) for corporate bonds and US$ 15 billion (LE 80 billion) for government bonds at the end of September 2008 (Including Treasury Bonds according to Primary Dealers System).

Foreign Participation

In September 2008, foreign investors participated with 33.99% of the total market value traded with a net outflow of portfolio foreign investment totaling US$ 188 million (LE 1,031 million).
