The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) Monthly Statistical Report May 2015

Total number of listed companies on the main market amounted to 219 at the end of May 2015. Meanwhile, the number of listed companies on Nilex reached 33 at the end of the month.

 

No companies were listed this month.

Total number of trading days in May 2015 amounted to 21 days, with a total value traded of US$ 2,428.67 million (LE 18,288.12 million). Value traded of the main market amounted to US$ 2,187.08 million (LE 16,468.89 million), of which shares, bonds and funds represented 66.76%, 33.24 % and 0%, respectively. Unlisted securities i.e. Over the Counter trading reached US$ 233.28 million (LE 1,756.59 million), which represents 9.61% of total value traded for the month. Additionally, Nilex has recorded a trading value of US$ 8.32 million (LE 62.64 million) during the month.

 

This is in comparison to April 2015, when value traded of the main market amounted to US$ 2,302.56 million (LE 17,338.53 million), of which shares represented 58.30%, bonds 41.70% and funds 0%. In addition, the OTC trading amounted to US$ 166.03 million (LE 1,250.23 million), i.e. 6.71% of total trading (on- and off-exchange trading), which reached US$ 2,472.94 million (LE 18,621.45 million). Additionally, Nilex has recorded a trading value of US$ 4.34 million (LE 32.68 million) during the month.

 

Total volume traded of the main market for this month reached 3,549.27 million securities. Meanwhile, the total volume traded of the OTC market has reached 245.55 million securities. Nilex has recorded a trading volume of 41.99 million securities.

 

During May 2015, 462,078 transactions were concluded with an average of 22,004 trades per day, as opposed to 369,663 transactions were concluded with an average of 18,483 trades per day, during April 2015.

EGX 30 index, the official market index, witnessed an increase of 1.27% in May 2015, to close at 8,782.55 points and witnessed a YoY an increase of 6.55%. 

 

Meanwhile, EGX 70 price index witnessed a decline of 1.20% in May 2015, to close at 469.72 points and witnessed a YoY decline of 20.32%.

 

Moreover, EGX 100 price index witnessed an increase of 1.44% in May 2015, to close at 985.75 points and witnessed a YoY decline of 4.38%.

 

Moreover, EGX 20 Capped index witnessed an increase of 2.02% in May 2015, to close at 9,267.01 points and witnessed a YoY decline of 6.58%.

 

Additionally, the Dow Jones EGX Egypt Titans 20 index witnessed a decline of 0.85% in May 2015, to close at 1,841.42 points and witnessed a YoY increase of 7.91%.

 

On the other hand, the S&P/EGX ESG index witnessed an increase of 0.48% in May 2015, to close at 1,313.01 points and witnessed a YoY decline of 17.45%.

From another perspective, Nile index witnessed a decline of 1.3% in May 2015, to close at 696.31 points and witnessed a YoY decline of 15.68%.

The ten most active stocks in the main market represented 79.33% of total traded shares' volume and 60.2% of total traded shares' value for this month.

During the month of May the top five gainers, on the main market, were (in descending order of price change) United Arab Shipping (25.58%), Development & Engineering Consultants (22.99%), El Kahera Housing (21.63%), Canal Shipping Agencies (20.68%) and The Arab Dairy Products Co. ARAB DAIRY (15.81%).

The top five losers, on the main market, were (in ascending order of price change) Advanced Pharmaceutical Packaging Co. (APP) (-18.84%), Misr National Steel - Ataqa (-18.67%), Rights Issue Of Palm Hills Development Company-2 (-18.64%), Global Telecom Holding (-15.12%) and Lecico Egypt (-14.67%).

Total market capitalization of shares in the main market amounted to US$ 65.83 billion (LE 495.71 billion), as of end of May 2015 compared to US$ 66.37 billion (LE 499.79 billion) in April 2015, representing a decline of 0.8%. Meanwhile, Market capitalization for the companies listed on Nilex has reached US$ 162.35 million (LE 1.22 billion) at the end of May 2015.

In May 2015, foreign investors participated with 17.35% of the value traded of the main market, with a net outflow of portfolio foreign investment totaling US$ 24.5 million (LE 184.48 million).
