Listing

Total number of listed companies on the main market decreased to 212 companies at the end of December 2010 compared to 213 at the end of November 2010. Meanwhile, the number of listed companies on Nilex has reached 16 at the end of December 2010.

There were no new listed companies this month.

Turnover

Total number of trading days in December 2010 amounted to 21 days with a total value traded of US$ 3,978.80 million (LE 23,096.53 million). Value traded of the main market amounted to US$ 3,382.27 million (LE 19,633.72 million), of which shares, bonds and funds represented 77.78%, 22.22% and 0.00%, respectively. Unlisted securities i.e. Over the Counter trading reached US$ 592.10 million (LE 3,437.06 million), which represents 14.88% of total value traded for the month. Additionally, Nilex has recorded a trading value of US$ 4.43 million (LE 25.74 million) during the month.

This is in comparison to November 2010, when value traded of the main market amounted to US$ 4,196.82 million (LE 24,297.49 million), of which shares represented 64.21%, bonds 35.79% and funds 0.00%. In addition, the OTC trading amounted to 153.42 million (LE 888.24 million) i.e. 3.52% of total trading (on- and off-exchange trading), which reached US$ 4,355.38 million (LE 25,215.49 million). Additionally, Nilex has recorded a trading value of US$ 5.14 million (LE 29.75 million) during the month.

Total volume traded of the main market for this month reached 1,931.67 million securities. Meanwhile, the total volume traded of the OTC market has reached 342.11 million securities. Nilex has recorded a trading volume of 2.38 million securities.

During December 2010, 749,290 transactions were concluded with an average of 35,680 trades per day, as opposed to 751,974 transactions and an average of 39,578 trades per day in November 2010.

Indices

EGX 30 index, the official market index, witnessed an increase of 6.52% in December 2010 to reach 7142.14 points and witnessed a YoY increase of 15.03%.

Meanwhile, EGX 70 price index witnessed an increase of 1.25% in December 2010 to reach 721.54 points and witnessed a YoY increase of 12.23%.

Moreover, EGX 100 price index witnessed an increase of 0.50% in December 2010 to reach 1166.24 points and witnessed a YoY increase of 10.09%. Additionally, the Dow Jones EGX Egypt Titans 20 index witnessed an increase of 5.95% in December, to close at 1,532.78 points on 30/12/2010 and witnessed a YoY increase of 16.62%.

On the other hand, the S&P/EGX ESG index witnessed an increase of 0.73% in December, to close at 1112.69 points and witnessed a YoY increase of 21.21%.

Price Movements of Selected Shares

The ten most active stocks in the main market represented 39.84% of the total value & 52.27% of the total volume of shares traded for the month.

During the month of December, the top five gainers, on the main market, were (in descending order of price change) United Housing & Development (+42%), General Company For Land Reclamation, Development & Reconstruction (+38%), Al Baraka Bank Egypt (+35%), Rakta Paper Manufacturing (+31%) and Egyptian Chemical Industries (Kima) (+22%).

The top five losers were (in ascending order of price change) Golden Pyramids Plaza (-25%), Egyptian Real Estate Group (-17%), Egyptian for Developing Building Materials (-16%), Ceramic & Porcelain (-15%) and Arab Valves Company (-15%).

Market Capitalization

Total market capitalization of shares in the main market amounted to US$ 84.10 billion (LE 488.21 billion) as of end of December 2010 compared to US$ 82.57 billion (LE 478.01 billion) in November 2010, representing an increase of 2.13%. Meanwhile, Market capitalization for the companies listed on Nilex has reached US$ 175.33 million (LE 1.02 billion) at the end of December 2010.

The bond capitalization recorded US$ 1.2 billion (LE 7.1 billion) for corporate bonds and US$ 35.2 billion (LE 204.5 billion) for government bonds at the end of December 2010 (Including Treasury Bonds according to Primary Dealers System).

Foreign Participation

In December 2010, foreign investors participated with 23.55% of the value traded of the main market, with a net inflow of portfolio foreign investment totaling US$ 115.63 million (LE 671.21 million).
