The 12th Latibex Forum Starts Tomorrow In Madrid - There Will Be Around 50 Latin American Companies And More Than 300 European Investors And Intermediaries - Latin America Has Come Out Of The Crisis Stronger And Will Grow By 6% On Average In 2010

The 12th Latibex Forum, organised by BME, begins tomorrow with an inaugural event that will be presided over by Antonio Zoido, Chairman of BME with Cesar Alierta, Chairman of Telefónica, Angel Cano, Chief Executive of BBVA, Salvador Gabarró, Chairman of Gas Natural Fenosa, Francisco Luzón, Executive Director of Santander, and Borja Prado, Chairman of Endesa also in attendance.

Luis Alberto Moreno, Chairman of IBD - the Inter American Development Bank – will give a keynote address on Friday, 19 November.

During this three-day event, over 50 Latin American companies will come together in Madrid with over 300 European investors and European financial intermediaries for what has consolidated itself as the major gathering of this type in Europe.

The Forum takes place against an excellent backdrop. According to the IMF, the Latin American economy has recovered from the crisis sooner than was expected and could grow by 6% in 2010.

During the first day, topics such as economic perspectives and challenges for Latin America will be discussed while the Chilean and Mexican economies will be analysed closely by two panels especially dedicated to these countries. This session will also feature a keynote address by José Luis Escrivá, Chief Economist, BBVA.

The second day will start with a panel entitled “The financial system in the new scenario”. Later the growth of China as a factor for demand in Latin America will be analysed. Greg Tanzer, General Secretary, IOSCO, will give the keynote address. As in previous years, lunch will be followed by the “Brazil evening” event, in which the Brazilian economy will be analysed in detail by José Juan Ruiz and Octavio de Barros, Chief Economists at Santander Latin America and Bradesco. Sustainable Development and Internal Demand will be key topics during the evening.

The last day of the Forum will feature panels about “Implications for the access by companies and households to financial services” and ”Investment Opportunities in the Andean community”. Besides the keynote address by IBD Chairman, Javier Santiso, a Telefónica Director for Latin America, will give another keynote address
