FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index:

Thailand Futures Exchange’s Opening Day Trade Well-Received

Date 28/04/2006

Thailand Futures Exchange PCL (TFEX) was launched today, to the applause of key figures from the Thai and regional capital markets. Numerous distinguished guests from local and overseas institutions gathered to congratulate the exchange. The opening day’s trade exceeded expectations, and is likely to grow further.

“Trading value on our first trading day was better than expected, making today a great beginning. We believe that once investors become more accustomed to derivatives, trading values will increase,” said TFEX Managing Director, Ms. Kesara Manchusree.

The business done today came to 161 futures contracts, worth THB86.47 million. (USD2.28 million) These included 152 contracts for SET50 Index futures expiring in June, 2006, eight expiring in September, 2006, and one expiring in December, 2006. No trade occurred on SET50 Index futures expiring in March, 2007. The June, 2006 contracts were the most active, a conventional futures trading pattern, in that contracts with the shortest life tend to be the most actively traded.

The top five most active brokers, based on value, were KGI Securities (Thailand) PCL, leading, followed by Trinity Polaris Futures Co., Ltd., ACL Securities Co., Ltd., Kim Eng Securities (Thailand) PCL, and UBS Securities (Thailand) Ltd.

Anyone interested in derivatives trading is encouraged to learn more about the futures market at TFEX’s free monthly seminars. The next program will be on Sunday, May 21, 2006, between 13:00 – 16:00 hrs. at the SET Building.
