Thai Bourse Market Report For May 2015

Average daily securities trading value down 6.49 pct y-o-y to USD 1.14 bln
Market cap at USD 427.9 bln, up 1.26 pct from end of last year
Derivatives trading down 4.66 percent m-o-m to 149,516 contracts per day
Foreign investors bought a net USD 92.5 mln in May

The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) securities trading value of the main board and the Market for Alternative Investment (mai) in May dropped 6.49 percent to THB 38.58 billion (approximately USD 1.14 billion) from a year earlier. Investor sentiment was hit by concerns over weaker-than-expected economic growth in the first quarter of this year and fears that the Federal Reserve might raise interest rates sooner than expected, as well as Greece’s debt repayment delay to the International Monetary Fund.

The SET main index ended May at 1,496.05 points, down 0.1 percent from end-2014 and down 2.0 percent from the previous month. Foreign investors were net buyers in the equity market for the third consecutive month this year, worth a net THB 3.12 billion (USD 92.52 million).

Market capitalization of SET was at THB 14.02 trillion (USD 416.02 billion) at the end of May, up 1.21 percent from end-2014, while market valuation of mai was at THB 394.61 billion (USD 11.71 billion), up 3.01 percent from the end of 2014.
Forward P/E ratio for SET was at 15.01 times, while mai's was at 21.26 times.
Dividend yield for SET was at 3.00 percent, while mai's was 1.03 percent.
Listed companies on SET and mai raised funds through equity worth a combined THB 11.97 billion (USD 355.07 million) in May, of which THB 11.23 billion was raised from initial public offerings from three companies on SET and one company on mai, as well as THB 737.5 million from the secondary market. Total fundraising in the past five months was at THB 144.24 billion, up more than 3.25 times from a year earlier.

Derivatives

Derivatives daily trading volume dropped 4.66 percent from a month ago to an average of 149,516 contracts per day. The decrease was mainly from single stock futures.
