Thai Bourse: Flooding In The South Not Affect Trading

Date 02/11/2010

“Due to the flooding in the South, 20 branches in Hat Yai, Song Khla of 15 member companies have to temporarily close. However, every branch can transfer trading orders from every investor to its head office. The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) has closely followed-up on the situation and coordinated with member companies,” revealed SET Chief Marketing Officer Pakorn Peetathawatchai.

As many of commercial bank branches closed, which might affect clearing between member companies and investors, the SET will be flexible on clearing deadlines on a case by case basis.

As for today’s trading activities, the SET Index closed at 1,005.58, a rise of 2.34 index points over yesterday , with trading value of THB38.16 billion (approx. USD1.27 billion), which is well within normal range. This volume is an indicator that the widespread flooding to date has not seriously affected trading.
