The SPI® stock-market barometer has turned 20. The Swiss Performance Index SPI® was published for the first time on 22 August 1987. It was standardised with an initial baseline value of 1000 points on 1 June 1987.
The SPI® tracks the development of the entire Swiss equity market. It includes all Swiss stocks with a primary listing on the SWX Swiss Exchange, except for investment companies and those shares that have a free float of less than 20%. The SPI® is also broken down into numerous sub-indices according to sector and capitalisation. It currently comprises about 230 stocks and is calculated and published every three minutes.
