During the month of November 2008, almost 60 million electronic order book (EOB) equity trades were done on FESE Members with a value of 631 billion EUR. This means a 46% decrease compared to the previous month.
The equity market capitalisation of FESE Member exchanges decreased to 6,352 billion EUR.
27 new companies were listed during the month of November in FESE members, 12 of which were listed through an IPO.
EOB ETFs trading volumes decreased 5% year-on-year in November while securitised derivatives decreased by 52% from a year ago.
EOB Bond trading value went down to 26 billion EUR last month, a decrease of 27% compared to the previous month.
The number of equity derivative contracts traded has decreased by 34% compared to October while bonds derivative contracts decreased by 32% in the same period.
The FESE statistics monthly reports have been improved with the inclusion of the Open Interest which is defined as follows: "Number of commodities derivatives contracts outstanding at a given time (close of trading at the last trading day of the month). It may be computed on a net or gross basis, according to the way the opening/closing of position by the same trader is managed at the clearing level. This is usually used in analysis of liquidity and market size". During November 2008, the open interest for equity derivatives was close to 239 million and for bond derivatives was 32 million.
