Summary Of FESE Member Exchanges Statistics For January 2009

During the month of January 2009, more than 52 million electronic order book (EOB) equity trades were carried out on FESE Members’ Exchanges with a value of 516 billion EUR. This means an 8% increase compared to the previous month.

The equity market capitalisation of FESE Member exchanges decreased to 5,992 billion EUR.

14 new companies were listed during the month of January within the FESE membership, 5 of which were listed through an IPO.

EOB ETFs trading volumes decreased 5% in January 2009 while securitised derivatives increased by 5% compared to the previous month.

EOB Bond trading value reached almost 29 billion EUR last month, it increased by 10% compared to the previous month.

The number of equity derivative contracts traded has increased by 21% compared to December 2008 and bonds derivative contracts increased by 32% in the same period.

During January 2009, the open interest for equity derivatives was close to 210 million, this means a 21% increase compare to the previous month. The open interest for bond derivatives was 29 million and increased by 23% compare to December 2008.
