STOXX Ltd. Launches The First Formula 1 Index - New Sports Index Measures Major Companies Related To Formula 1 Racing

Date 08/03/2007

STOXX Ltd. today announced the launch of the Dow Jones STOXX Grand Prix Index. The new index measures the performance of the major players in the Formula 1 series. Components included in the index are categorized into four main groups: engine manufacturers, tire makers, oil- and fuel-suppliers and team sponsors.

“The new Dow Jones STOXX Grand Prix Index is the newest addition to our popular and widely used sports indexes,“ said Lars Hamich, managing director of STOXX Ltd. “With the Dow Jones STOXX Grand Prix Index, we have another tool to build a bridge between the world of sports and the world of finance. It is a unique index, since it does not consist only of car manufacturers, but of all the main players involved in the Formula 1 industry. Another distinctive feature is the fact that the weighting of the companies also reflects the success on the circuit as the top three ranked teams in the previous Formula 1 constructor’s championship receive a higher importance.”

The Dow Jones STOXX Grand Prix Index universe includes all companies worldwide that provide goods and services to a Formula 1 team, is listed on a stock exchange and has a minimum float market capitalization of € 50 million. At the beginning of each Formula 1 season, those companies are categorized into four groups defined by STOXX Limited: engine manufacturers, tire makers, oil- and fuel-suppliers and team sponsors. Companies in the respective categories are weighted as follows: 60 percent for engine manufacturers, 15 percent for tire makers, 15 percent for oil and fuel suppliers and 10 percent for team sponsors. The weighting reflects the potential influence of a supplier in the success of a Formula 1 team. Over the last 1 year, the annualized performance of the Dow Jones STOXX Grand Prix Index is 18.23% and it outperforms the Dow Jones STOXX Global 1800 Automobiles & Parts Index by 8.48%.

The Dow Jones STOXX Grand Prix Index comprises currently 19 companies and is reviewed annually in March. It is calculated in Euro and US dollar, in both price and total return versions. Historical data is available daily back to December 31, 1996, the date at which the base value is set at 100.
