Speech By SGX Group Chairman Koh Boon Hwee At The Securities Market Opening Ceremony For NextGen Tech 30

Date 30/09/2026

  1. A very good morning Minister for National Development and Deputy Chairman of the MAS, Mr. Chee Hong Tat; Jenny and the Granite Asia team; ladies and gentlemen.

  2.  First of all, let me recognise the NextGen Tech 30 award recipients. This event is all about you.

  3. Building a company from the ground up is hard.  Building a technology company is harder.  Building one in the fragmented markets of Asia is even harder. So, for those of you who are here today, it is a symbol of resilience, ambition, and perseverance.

  4. But what is demonstrated here today is that Asia has no shortage of talent or ideas.

  5. What our region needs is a stronger ecosystem that gives its best companies the capital, connections and confidence to scale globally.

  6. Even if it starts from here, Singapore continues to take practical steps in this direction. The initiatives announced by Minister Chee yesterday put more of these plans into action, supporting Singapore’s ambition to be, in his words, “the place in this region where capital can connect with opportunities and create the next generation of growth”.

  7. SGX will play its part by bringing the ecosystem together and focusing on execution.

  8. Not every company here will eventually list on SGX, and that is fine.

  9. What matters is that good Asian companies can continually tap global capital as they grow.

  10. Let me leave you with one thought before I pass the time to Minister Chee. Your success should not end with the companies you build today.

  11. Build globally. Bring in the talent that is required to make you successful. Back the founders who come after you. Because entrepreneurs learn from working with other entrepreneurs. There’s a school of thought that goes, you can’t learn entrepreneurship, and I can tell you from personal experience that that is not true. That’s how Asia’s next champions were created.

  12. So, congratulations once again to all the award recipients. I wish you every success in the years ahead. Keep it up. Thank you.
