  3. Introduction of free-float criteria

Désormais, le calcul de la capitalisation boursière d'une valeur sera basé sur In a new development, the computation of market capitalisation shall in future be based on the number of freely tradable shares (free float). Shares that are in a state of fixed ownership (e.g. government-owned shares, stock that is bound by shareholder agreements or restricted as to sale via lock-up provisions, etc.) shall no longer be taken into account in calculating the amount of equity capital in circulation.

Introduction of the free-float method shall take place on 1 October 2001. Because the Index Rules stipulate that the criteria for a change in the composition of the index must have been met for a period of four successive quarters, the first adjustments based on the free-float method shall take place on 1 October 2002 at the earliest.

The figures that are relevant in this regard to SPI® issues are to be ascertained via a capital survey of issuers that is being conducted during the month of July 2001. As a new rule for additions and for the remaining in the SPI® universe a 20% free float is required.
