SIX Swiss Exchange: Bonds Quarterly Statistics: 3rd Quarter 2016

  • The latest issue of the "Bonds Quarterly Statistics" report looks at the performance of SIX Swiss Exchange's Bonds segment in the third quarter of 2016.

SIX Swiss Exchange today published the latest edition of its "Bonds Quarterly Statistics[pdf]". The CHF Bonds segment showed a turnover of CHF 26.8 billion in the third quarter, a decrease of 24% compared to the previous quarter, and a 20% decrease year on year. The strongest sector in terms of turnover, financials, fell by 20%, as did the government sector which decreased by 36%. More positively, the consumer goods sector increased by 16% to CHF 260 million. In the segment of Non-CHF Bonds, the third quarter turned over EUR 5.5 billion, representing no change to the previous quarter but a 60% increase compared to the third quarter of 2015.

Domestic CHF Bonds under pressure

Within the CHF Bonds segment, turnover in Domestic Bonds fell from CHF 22.5 billion to CHF 17.1 billion. However Domestic Bonds still retained the larger share of the total turnover at 64%, compared to Foreign Bonds at 36%. Overall the total number of listed CHF Bonds fell slightly at the end of Q3 to 1'705 (1'709 end of Q2).
