Speaking at TheCityUK’s EU Forum at Clifford Chance on 28 April to launch its latest research into the UK’s membership of Europe, Sir Win Bischoff, Chairman of TheCityUK’s Advisory Board, will say: “TheCityUK has produced evidence of the importance which business leaders attach to our continued membership of the EU. But our support is not uncritical. Reform is needed and Britain should be leading that reform and should be at the centre of debates about how the EU can work best for all its citizens.”
He will conclude by saying: “The UK plays a pivotal role in shaping financial services regulation. As the financial centre of Europe, this warrants stronger EU engagement, not less.
“We should be proud of the fact that we were a major force in creating the European Single Market and we should be in the vanguard of those seeking to develop and strengthen it.
“I want to see a reformed Europe. Reform implies building up alliances for change within the EU rather than banging the table. It means, too, that Britain is best serviced by delivering reforms from within rather than from outside.”
