Singapore-Based Investors Confident In Thai Listed Firms

Date 31/08/2010

The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) revealed after a roadshow in Singapore on August 27 that leading institutional investors are still confident in Thailand and wish to invest more. Over 150 institutional investors came to the event to show their great attention.

The roadshow “SET-CS Singapore Roadshow 2010” to that country received great attention from investors, SET President Charamporn Jotikasthira revealed. The roadshow was held by SET and Credit Suisse Securities (Thailand) Co., Ltd., and led by Finance Minister Korn Chatikavanij. The Thai National Telecommunications Commission and nine listed firms joined the event to present information to leading institutional investors.

Even though the SET Index has increased 40% y-o-y, foreign investors still allocate less capital to Thailand than almost any other country in Asia. However, after receiving information directly from Finance Minister Korn, the roadshow’s organizers and listed companies, Singapore-based institutional investors have increased their interest to return to Thailand. Over 150 institutional investors are interested in receiving information about Thailand’s economic situation, financial policy, and overview of the Thai stock market. The roadshow helped build confidence of investors about the strength of Thai economy. Although some investors still have concerns about our political situation, they acknowledged that the situation has been steadily improving.

“Throughout the event, the SET pointed out to participants that even though Thailand had been affected by political unrest, our listed firms’ performance has been steadily improving and was excellent, showing the companies’ resiliency and potential. Therefore, this is a good opportunity for investors to return to put more investment weight in Thailand,” said Mr. Charamporn.

Companies giving presentations to institutional investors consisted of Advanced Info Service PCL (ADVANC), Bangkok Bank (BBL), CP ALL PCL (CPALL), Minor International PCL (MINT), PTT PCL (PTT), PTT Exploration and Production (PTTEP), Thai Oil PCL (TOP), Thai Union Frozen Products PCL (TUF), and Tisco Financial Group (TISCO), who represented a group of businesses with high growth potential.
